You know what I love? I love joining-up with my humans. The best part about join-up is that we can do it over and over again; it only strengthens our bond. Now and then, my humans ask me to join-up with them again, and I’m always eager to comply.
And then I ask them to join up with me, too.
But do you want to know what I don’t love? I don’t love losing a shoe… And, unfortunately, I did lose a shoe this weekend.
Now, Mommy knew that I wouldn’t be happy if I had to stay inside alone all night – but she didn’t want me to go out with one shoe missing, because she knew I’d get very sore, very quickly. So, she made a boot for me out of duct tape and let me go outside for the night.
Although it was much better than being completely barefoot on that hoof, I still got pretty sore after a while. It’s hard walking around lopsided, and it’s especially hard to feel all of the little rocks and stones that I can’t usually feel, since my shoes protect me from them.
Needless to say, I had to come back inside and hang out in my stall for a while so I wouldn’t get too sore, walking around with one foot bare!
Luckily, my friend – John the Farrier – came out yesterday to put my shoe back on. He was really impressed with my new barn, which made me feel proud; I tried to show off a little by showing him how many friends I’ve already made.
John the Farrier put my shoe back on in no time at all, and it felt much better to have all four of my shoes on again!
Since I was already sore from being barefoot and lopsided for a while, and even more sore from getting my shoe put back on, Mommy didn’t want me to work – but she knew that I had a lot of pent up energy, so she had me go into the round pen for a couple minutes to let off some of my steam. It was fun to trot and buck a little bit – and the footing in the round pen is nice and soft, so it really didn’t hurt my foot at all.
Then, I got to go out into the paddock to hang out with my friends and eat grass all night long!
Mommy and I had a good (but fairly light) workout this morning in the dressage arena. I loved looking at the sights while we cooled down, walking around the outside of the arena.
I don’t know what Mommy has planned for tomorrow, but I can’t wait to find out. I’ll be sure to let you know what we end up doing. I love my life! Catch y’all later…
