Dreaming of better days

You know, sometimes I really like having a day off. When the weather is cold or gross, or when it’s raining… or when I’m really tired from a week of hard workouts.

Today, I did not want the day off.

Since the grass is now growing quite lush again, Leo is only allowed to eat it for a little while each day before going into a small paddock, where the grass has all been grazed down. So, that leaves me all alone in the big field, eating grass by myself. And it’s really no fun to eat grass alone, for those of you who haven’t done it before.

In fact, I was so bored and lonely that I stood by the gate most of the day, trying to flag down my Daddy whenever he came near me. I wanted to either be turned out with Leo again, or come in and work. I wasn’t tired, anyway, even though Mommy insisted I needed to “rest” today.

Well, needless to say, I didn’t get to go into a paddock with Leo, and my Mommy didn’t work me. But my Daddy did come over and hang out with me for a little while in the middle of the day. I wasn’t as lonely when he was there, so I ate some grass and listened to him while he spoke to me.

Hanging out with my Daddy.

Mommy came back later in the day to hang out with me, too, and groom on me for a little while. Finally, she polished my hooves and gave me a carrot, and then put me in my stall for the night with a couple flakes of hay. It was my favorite kind today – Alfalfa! I love Alfalfa hay.

Tomorrow, Mommy said we’ll ride in the morning. I think I’m happy about that; I might change my mind, though, come morning. Either way, I’ll let y’all know how it goes. Until then…
