Today was such a beautiful day! It was warm and sunny, just like I hoped it would be. (Thanks for crossing your hooves for me, friends, in hopes of good weather; it obviously worked!)
Mommy came to ride me in the early afternoon, at the warmest time of the day, and we had a great ride! It was tough, but still a lot of fun. She decided to ride me in my jumping hackamore – which is quite inappropriately named, seeing as how she never jumps me in it, because I only like to wear it during flatwork! But it was a nice change from working in my bit, even though I do love my sweet-iron egg-butt snaffle with copper inlays. (Mommy got it from Monty Roberts’ website when she first adopted me!)
After we had a really nice warm up on the flat, Mommy started to warm me up with some flying lead changes. (Obviously we weren’t going to jump today, since I had two days off in a row.) We practiced our lead changes in both directions, and I behaved perfectly. Then, Mommy asked me to do a bunch of lead changes in a row down the middle of the arena. It was very difficult, and I got a little frustrated a couple times when I messed up… but in the end, I actually did EIGHT changes in a row down the long side, with only one stride in between! Mommy was so proud of me that she let me gallop a little, and then she let me run straight over to Daddy for love and praise!
Tomorrow, we get to jump. I’m excited! I have a feeling we’re finally going to jump a whole course set to four feet high! Daddy and Auntie Nikki put a super-duper simple course up in the arena so Isis could jump over it at about two feet, since she had most of the winter off and is just starting to get back into shape, but Mommy said we can get creative with it and make it more difficult by adding in some jumpers turns and whatnot… and, of course, by raising it up to four feet!
I’ll let you know how it goes! Oh, and guess what? Friday will be my sixth birthday! AND it’s a jumping day! I can’t wait to see what Mommy makes for me for my birthday… Last year, she baked me a huge vegan carrot cake! It was delicious, and I got to share it with all of my horse and human friends! Anyone have some guesses as to what it’s going to be this year?? If you do, leave me a comment and I’ll tell you on Friday if you’re right!
Alright, I’m going to go eat my night hay and then get some shut eye. I have to rest up for my big jumping day tomorrow! Goodnight, y’all! Catch you tomorrow…
