Rainy days and horse shoes

Well, since I worked for four days in a row – and jumped on two of those days – Mommy gave me yesterday off to rest and relax in the paddock with my best friend, Leo. It was beautiful outside, warm and sunny with just a hint of a breeze, and I was happy for a day to just hang out and be silly. I even took a nap in the sunshine. It was wonderful.

But when I woke up this morning and saw that it was raining, I wished I had been able to work yesterday – because I knew that I wasn’t going to work today, either. That’s the thing about what the humans call “The South;” you never know what the weather is going to look like, even if you check it on your phone or on the television in your house. The weatherman can tell you one thing, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll come to pass.
In fact, the weatherman on Mommy’s phone said that it was supposed to rain yesterday – but the sun stayed out all day, and the clouds didn’t even appear until it was almost nighttime.
Anyway, it rained most of the night and was still raining this morning when Mommy and Daddy came to turn me out… and you know what that means. We all had to go into the small paddocks. Except Leo, that is; Leo had to stay in his stall today because he gave himself a good gash on his heel yesterday, and Uncle Mike didn’t want it to get infected in the mud. Aunt Nikki is coming home from Florida today to spend a few days with her family, and Uncle Mike said she would look at it when she got here. It’ll be nice to see Aunt Nikki – I haven’t seen her in weeks! In fact, I heard that she and Moekie recently got a first place in one of their classes at the horse show down there in Florida. We’re all so proud of Moekie! I knew he could do it.
So, my friend, John – the farrier – came by today to do all of our shoes. It was a tough day, but he’s very patient – and so is his assistant, Matt. Even though Isis and I gave them a hard time, they still didn’t mind. I like them. They’re nice guys.
Those are my shoes, cooking in the forge!

Those are my shoes, cooking in the forge!

Well, I hope that the sun comes out tomorrow to dry up all of the water and mud, because I’d really like to work. I have so much energy! Keep your hooves crossed for sunshine and clear skies, friends! Catch y’all later…
