Yes, friends, that’s right. I’m wishing, hoping, and dreaming – about sunshine and flowers and horse shows and sunshine. And most of all, I’m dreaming about tall, sweet grass that grows as high as my hips and seems to be endless. So much grass that Leo and I couldn’t possibly finish it all by the time the next winter comes around.
These wintery days are too gloomy; this rain is driving me crazy; this irregular workout schedule is starting to get the best of me.
I did get to jump yesterday, and it was wonderful, even though it was dreadfully cold out. Well, I suppose it wasn’t that cold; it was probably only about 40 degrees when we worked, but only because Mommy worked me in the morning yesterday. The day actually warmed up a lot after that – it got up to about 55 degrees, with lots of sun!
I have to admit, I wasn’t that happy about working in the morning while all of my friends went outside into the paddocks to eat grass – but I did my best to behave.
Okay, I almost did my best to behave… I was still a little bit naughty.
Seriously, though, it’s not my fault. With the cold, and my friends leaving for the paddocks without me, and the excitement of jumping… I was just a little bit hyper. Mommy understood.
Mommy and I worked over the same half-course that we’ve been working over lately, and we actually had a lot of fun. Since Mommy knows that I can go fast and jump high, she wants me to practice going slow and jumping high, because it’s much more difficult. We warmed up on the flat, and then we warmed up over the jumps, and then Mommy had me jump three jumps in a little pattern, each one getting bigger until the last one, which was set to 3’6.
One day soon, Mommy and Daddy are going to set up a full course of jumps so I can start practicing for the show season! I don’t know when I’m going to go to a show, but it’ll probably be in the spring or in the summer.
As long as I can hitch a ride with someone, that is. You see, Mommy and Daddy don’t have their own horse trailer. I’m sure we’ll be able to work it out, though. Somehow, my humans always work it out!
I’m glad I got to jump yesterday, because today was rainy all day. We were all stuck in the little paddocks again, which you know we hate. But Daddy made sure we got hay during the day, since there’s no grass left to eat in those paddocks, so we weren’t too miserable. I just hope that it doesn’t rain again tomorrow. Not only because I don’t want to be in a little paddock again, but because I want to work!
For now, though, I’m going to go eat my night hay and then go to sleep. And do you know what I’m going to dream about?
Yes, I think you know.
Goodnight, friends! Catch y’all tomorrow.
