Well, friends, I have good news. Remember yesterday, when I told you that my Daddy was going to work with me if the weather held up? I wasn’t sure if he was going to ride me or long-line me, and I said I’d let you know… As it turned out, the weather did hold up – it was actually quite a lovely day, in fact – and Daddy decided to ride me!
Okay, I may have helped to manipulate that decision a little bit. You see, in the middle of the day, when the sun was high and warm, I decided to take a nap out in the big field while Leo kept an eye out for potential predators. I know that my Daddy always comes over when he sees me napping, and if I could get him to spend a little time with me… well, he would just feel too guilty to long-line me after spending some quality time together!
And yes, it worked. Daddy came out to the field and laid down next to me. We hung out for a while, just chilling together and enjoying the day. He told me that it was the coolest thing ever to hang out with me like that ! And then, he said the magic words… “Icchy, I think I’ll ride you today, instead of long-lining you. I feel so connected with you right now, and I just know we’ll have a great ride!”
We sure did have a great ride. It was a lot of fun!
But there’s even more good news than that, friends! This morning, I got to see my Mommy! I had today off – partly because I’ve worked four days in a row, and partly because everyone said it was going to rain today – but my Mommy and Daddy both came to the barn this morning to hang out with me and groom on me. I was so happy to see my Mommy that I couldn’t help but get a little cheeky… I danced and pranced and squealed, and she laughed and gave me a big hug. She told me that she missed me, too.
After she groomed on me for a while, she hopped on me bareback and rode me out to the big field, where Leo was already grazing. We took a couple pictures for posterity, she gave me a couple treats, and then I was off to hang out with my best friend!
Later in the day, it did start raining, and my Auntie Paulette took us all out of the big paddocks to put us into the little ones so we could have some shelter from the elements. I’m sure glad she did, because it rained a lot! But it was fine with me, because we got to eat some hay inside our shelters. Daddy came back again to bring me inside, dry me off and clean my feet before putting me into my stall with some more hay. All in all, it was a really good day.
I don’t think it’s going to rain tomorrow. If it doesn’t, I think my Mommy will ride me since she’s feeling much better. I can’t wait… It’s nice to have my Daddy ride me a couple days in a row, but I sure do miss riding with Mommy!
Anyway, I hear the grain buckets rattling around in the feed room, so I’d better go and get ready for dinner. I don’t want to be fed last! Catch y’all tomorrow!
