Okay, although I felt a little bit guilty for how I acted yesterday, I have to say that I felt great today! I still had a ton of energy, and I was really excited to jump. I was determined to be perfect for my human today…I mean, I tried my best. I guess I wasn’t exactly what my human would consider “perfect,” because I still had a few too many energy bursts – mostly after jumping through an awesome triple line with a brick wall at the end!!! However, after I expended some of that energy, I was able to keep my head in the game (as the humans say) and really get down to business. I really wanted to jump an entire course, since I haven’t done too many of those yet, but my human Mommy told me that I didn’t have to do too much today, as long as I was well-behaved.
So, we worked over the triple line: an oxer, and then three strides to a “skinny” jump, and then five strides to a 3 foot tall brick wall (eeeaaasssyyyyy). That was the line that I had the most, um… “trouble” with yesterday. And by that, I mean that it’s the line I couldn’t help going nuts after!!! It was just SO MUCH FUN!!! I mean, seriously. Three jumps in a row! Three FUN jumps in a row!
Well, the first time I jumped it today, I got a little carried away again and took off running and bucking. But only for a little while! When I remembered how disappointed with me my Mommy was yesterday (and how many boring circles I had to do because of it…), I quickly calmed down and tried my hardest just to listen to what she was asking me to do. First, we trotted up to the oxer. Then, she wanted me to go really slowly to the next jump, and canter four strides instead of three before jumping the “skinny” jump. And again, after that jump, she wanted me to go slow… she wanted me to get six strides before jumping the brick wall, instead of five strides. My whole body was tense because I wanted SO BADLY to take off and go on another joy run, but I held it together! I’m very glad that I did, too – because after that, I got to canter into the oxer, canter three strides to the “skinny” jump, and then canter five strides to the wall, nice and loose and relaxed! And I did it so well that my human Mommy pulled a treat from out of her jacket pocket and gave it to me right then and there!!!
What made the day even better was that it was nice and warm, and I actually got to have a hot shower afterward! I love getting hot showers in the winter. It always makes me feel FULL of energy, even after I thought I was tired! And what’s EVEN MORE AWESOME than my hot shower was the fact that it was still the middle of the day, so I got to go back into the paddock to hang out with my best friend, Leo!
Needless to say, when my human turned me out, I took off with all of the energy that I’d been trying to contain during my ride!
Okay, the hot shower, the long gallop through the field… That was all a ton of fun, but NOTHING – and I mean NOTHING – beats having a nice roll in the mud! Especially when there’s SO MUCH MUD to roll in!!!
And on that note, I bid you all a good night. Hopefully I’ll get to roll in the mud again tomorrow!
Until then, here’s one last photo to remember me by… I know. I look good in mud.
